Bits and pieces

I grabbed some toothpaste last night whose purported flavor is "Empowermint." It was on sale, I was in a hurry, so I wasn't being particularly, well...particular. To my horror, however, I discovered that "Empowermint" is not minty so much as strongly reminiscent of Vick's VapoRub. Which, in turn, reminds me strongly of my late grandmother. Which is really creepy. I don't want to be thinking about my late grandmother every time I brush my teeth. I think I'm going to take it back.

I've been watching Friday Night Lights lately after my mom urged me to start watching. And wow, I don't know why I resisted it for so long. This is fantastic television -- extremely well-acted, well-written, natural, believable, and moving. I don't know why this show doesn't get more attention. It's seriously great. And could Tim Riggins (aka Taylor Kitsch) be any more lickable? Good lord, is that boy sex on toast.

I'm still mourning the end of my vacation in Portland, but at least there are pictures to remind me of the magic! Jay finally posted his awesome photos from the trip -- check them out!

One thing making the transition from Portland back to Dallas easier is the weather we've been having since Sunday. It's cool, breezy, and just sunny enough. Perfect, really. I just hope we don't go back to sauna temperatures before fall officially sets in. I love the idea of being able to take Callie for walks and sit in the backyard for hours, reading and listening to music.

One last thing: if you haven't installed the new iTunes, you're seriously missing out. Genius playlists are pretty awesome. You can choose any song from your library, click the Genius icon, and choose how many songs you want it to grab (from 25 to 100). Then sit back and watch while it matches the Eels with Filter, Beck, The White Stripes, The New Pornographers, and Fiona Apple, among others. I've created some pretty awesome playlists so far, with absolutely no effort required. If you're bored with your library or with Shuffle, this is a good way to reinvigorate your music.

Okay, one last last thing -- Pushing Daisies is coming back in 2 weeks! Whee!

Funny post. Much funnier and more interesting than the random post I started and abandoned quickly.

I didn't realize you associated Vic's with Gammie, but I see why. I remember the time your oldest brother got into her suitcase and rubbed it all over himself. She was M-A-D.

I'm thrilled you're enjoying FNL as much as me. You also share my lust of Tim Riggins. Really though, who wouldn't find that guy sexy? Mother Teresa would have to change her garments after watching an hour of him.
